Design SHELL allows up to 30 menus or applications on each
page. You are allowed to have Sub Menus and Applications
mixed on any page. Menus can be three levels deep.
With this configuration, you can have up to 27,000 titles.
Sub Menus are titled as "Menu" and Applications are titled
as "File".
If a title is password protected, a small dot will appear
below the Menu or File prompt.
NOTE ! All references to "CLICK" means to click your left
mouse button on the option.
Adding a Sub Menu or Application.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Click on the EDIT Icon.
Click on Add a new title.
At the data entry screen:
Title: Enter a title for this menu or application.
~~~~~~
HotKey: This hotkey can be used to access this menu
~~~~~~~ or application using the keyboard.
Drive: Enter the Drive letter.
~~~~~~
Directory: Enter the Directory that this application is
~~~~~~~~~~ located in.
Command: Enter any DOS or Batch file command or the
~~~~~~~~ filename that executes the application.
You may enter any number of commands you
like as long as you separate each command
with a carat character (^). Each command
will be executed separately.

-
Always include the file extensions (.COM,
.EXE,.BAT) when entering filenames.
You may also include a plus character (+)
immediately following any command. Including
a plus character will instruct Design SHELL
to ask the user for a command line switch or
parameter at run time. Any number of
commands may include a plus character.
You may also include the word "DROP" as a
command on this line. This DROP command
will instruct Design SHELL to drop to DOS.
Prompt: Any text entered here will be displayed to
~~~~~~~ the user at runtime.
Pause: If you want Design SHELL to pause and wait
~~~~~~ for a keypress after displaying the above
prompt, answer this with a "Y".
Password: Enter a password here, only if you want this
~~~~~~~~~ menu or application password protected.
CAUTION !
Even blank characters can be used as
password characters so if you do not want
password protection, make sure no characters
or blank spaces are present here.
SHELL: Answering this with a "N" will instruct
~~~~~~ Design SHELL to totally drop out of system
memory during executing an application (the
preferred method).
Answering with a "Y" will instruct Design
SHELL to execute this application through a
shell to DOS. With this method, Design
SHELL will use about 40kb of system memory
during execution of an application.
NOTE ! The SHELL method is slightly
faster. Also if you are running Design SHELL
through another GUI or menu you may need to
use this SHELL method to make sure Design
SHELL returns after executing a command.
MENU: Answering this option with a "Y" will cause
~~~~~ this title to become a sub menu title. You
are allowed to have sub menus three levels
deep. If you use this title as a sub menu,
you need not enter any text or information
at the Drive, Directory, Command, or Prompt
fields. The HotKey will be the only active
field.
-
Answering with a "Y" will instruct Design
SHELL to treat this title as an application
entry.
After completing all fields, click on the "TAB" icon to
save the field information. You will then be presented with
a list of all icons found. Select an icon by clicking on
the icon you want to represent this title.
After selecting an icon, Design SHELL will place your new
entry on the display screen, normally at the lower right
hand corner. You may then move or relocate this new entry
by clicking on the Move Icon, then click on the new Icon,
move it around the screen to the location you like, and
then click your mouse to paste it down.
The "ICON" Icon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This option takes you to the Icon editor. In this module
you may also select between six different font types, 3D or
flat fonts, or change between eight different background
color combinations.
This Icon editor should have no problems working with
icon lists of up to around 600 icons depending on your
system memory setup.
If you experience a slow down during the display of the
Icons, you may need to increase the buffers statement in
your CONFIG.SYS file.
A BUFFERS=60 seems to work best with large Icon libraries of
